Happy Mother's Day! Being a mother means so much. Having one that adopted you means so much as well. As most of you know I started a shortfilm project last year called Make A Heart A Home. It is about my journey as a Real Estate Agent and what home means to me. This year I decide to continue my story and call the next chapter "Ancestry".
In my first shortfilm I explained why I was a Real Estate Agent. I talked about how we all grow older and how we wish we could go back home. Press rewind. So it explored the notion that I became a Realtor because I was adopted. Now it's my turn to help others find a home. I cam full circle by visiting my home. Showing intimate pictures of my family. Expressing that the love I was given made me who I am today. At the end of the film I call my mom to tell her how much she means to me and I adopt a baby bringing life full circle.
Make A Heart A Home Vol. 2 is the next chapter in the story. In the first film I take a DNA test, but the results didn't change anything. My mother and family has always been a part of me. This is where the next part comes into play. Knowing my results was heavy on my heart. My family is still my family, but Pandora's box was now open. It would literally keep me up at night. I wanted to naturally know more. At the same time I didn't want to hurt my mother. What would she think of me? Would she be mad? The cycle in my head was endless. Then the moment came and I had my answer. My mom called me to congradulate me on my shortfilm and she asked about my test results. She was overjoyed to know more. So I told her that I was Native American. She burst with excitement. She naturally said she would donate to as many Native American charities as possible. Then she asked if I wanted to find my mother or find out more about my ancestors. She wanted me to find out more. It was surprising. I had no idea. I didn't know how she would react. I told her I had no intention of ever finding my birth mother becasue she is the only mom I've ever known. I told her I did want to find out more about my ancestors. I wanted to feel full.
This is what happened next. My creative expression of my journey and my love for my mom. I went on a trip to New Mexico to find this Native American church. Something was calling me to learn more. My mom was pushing me to learn more. So I did. This is my real journey. I lived it. I recreated it. I turned it into a shortfilm that I hope people can connect to. Hopefully, it will inspire someone to adopt a child.
