Dallas is full of pride! You can see it all over town with pride flags in the Oak Lawn area and even sprinkled out in other parts of Dallas. We have one of the largest gay districts in the U.S. and it shows. It seems like almost every month there is an event going on in support of the gay community. September just had it's Gay Pride celebration and it was jammed packed. The streets were full of music and people celebrating in the streets. The city had such a live feel to it.
I grew up in Mississippi and longed for a city that had a real sense of acceptance. Dallas definetly has that. Oak Lawn is a largely populated section of town and is coined for its gay community with the title of the "Legacy Of Love". Locals just call it the "Gayborhood". It stretches from Oak Lawn Avenue and all the way down to the Dallas Love Field Airport. It borders Uptown and trails along Highland Park. It's not just a place to go have drinks and dance the night away at one of the many bars or pubs, but there is so much more to offer. There are resturaunts, grocery stores, small boutiques, hotels, nail salons, a library and more. You literally can walk outside your door and walk to a locally owned business that celebrates its Gay Pride. There is no one to judge you and everyone feels accepted.
I love the Dallas "Gayborhood" and it is part of what makes this one of the best cities in America.
